2026 4-H Discovery Club
The 4-H Discovery Club had an exciting and creative few months filled with hands-on learning and artistic exploration!
In February, students got a behind-the-scenes look at the installation “Operation” and even became part of the exhibition. They imagined themselves participating in a Mardi Gras parade while resident artist Zoe McCarthy captured their movements. Those movements were transformed into digital animations and incorporated into the exhibit’s projections. Students also created Mardi Gras-inspired “floats” using repurposed paint palettes, the floats were incorporated into the digital animation. The digital animation belonged to “Organs of Joy” featured in the exhibition representing childlike expression through Louisiana’s Mardi Gras celebrations.
In March, creativity continued as students designed and created their own custom buttons inspired by Love the Boot Week. They explored a variety of artistic techniques, including painting, drawing, sketching, coloring, collage, and printmaking to bring their ideas to life. One design from each student was voted on by the public with the winning design made into a sticker that was distributed to volunteers during Love the Boot Week.
In April, the students learned how to create with natural pigments. We taught them how to make pigments from red cabbage, spiderwort, turmeric, paprika, blueberries, spinach, chalk, charcoal, baking soda, coffee grounds, beets, and strawberries. The students had a lot of fun with this project; this final workshop was a great way to part ways for summer break.
These projects gave students the opportunity to express their creativity, learn new artistic skills, and contribute to meaningful community initiatives. We were proud of their imagination, hard work, and enthusiasm throughout both experiences. Most importantly this wouldn’t be possible without the Lincoln Parish 4-H.
