North Louisiana Resident Artist, Hao “Eric” Shi

This Fall, we welcomed Eric Shi as RLCF's newest North Louisiana Resident Artist! Shi stayed in Lincoln Parish and worked out of a studio in downtown Ruston while visiting with local artists, art enthusiasts, and other community members!

This year's residency was themed "The Color of Life" and Shi was chosen as our resident for his bold use of colors to portray the relationships and emotions in life that are beyond what is seen.

Hao “Eric” Shi received his Bachelor's degree in Communication Design from the University of North Texas in 2001. Born in Qing Dao, China, Eric, and his family immigrated to the US when he was 13 years old. During this time, Eric confronted a seismic culture shift that turned his world upside down.

Unable to communicate with his peers because of the sudden language barrier, he turned to other avenues of communication, including visual self-expression.

“During those adolescent years, I began to understand that perspective matters; what I saw as a child was not the entire picture; it was simply a single point of infinite possible views.”

During his residency in North Louisiana (September 23rd through October 9, 2022), Eric hoped to “gain another point of view on the people, community, and culture that make up the richness of Louisiana” while furthering his artistic pursuits.
