The 2019 Residency

“Rural Communities Along the Red River”

Photography

The 2019 North Louisiana Artist-in-Residence theme is Rural Communities Along the Red River and the medium of art is photography. For two weeks between September 15th and October 10th the photographer will explore North Caddo Parish, documenting the farming communities along the Red River.

The goal of the 2019 North Louisiana AiR is to provide a photographer the opportunity to focus on a body of work relating to the theme while providing opportunities for them to engage with the communities along the Red River in North Caddo Parish. This affords the chance for both the enrichment of the artist’s craft and understanding of the local culture while also enhancing the local arts communities through the interactions.

Photographer Requirements:

The photographer is ideally developing a body of work that can connect with the farming communities in North Caddo Parish. We also invite photographers with an interest in utilizing the Residency as an exploratory period to learn about and document farming communities to apply!

As the communities are connected primarily by road, the photographer must have their own vehicle and be able to drive themselves between the communities during the residency. The photographer will provide their own equipment and related supplies.

RLCF will provide:

  • Housing in the form of an Airstream.

  • A gas stipend of $50 to cover travel between Ida and Dixie and the towns in between.

  • Community dinners with RLCF members and/or other related groups

  • A stipend of $250 for food not covered by community dinners.

  • One event/activity in the community co-planned with the photographer to engage with local members in an art and/or cultural manner.

  • Opportunities to speak and exhibit artwork during the Legacy Show Reception and Heritage & Harvest Tour

  • One day of visiting with RLCF members/staff and learning about Ross Lynn.

Expected Outcomes:

The photographer will provide an original work developed during or inspired by the North Louisiana Artist-in-Residence within three months of the AiR. The original work should be representative of their style and reflective of their residency. The photographer will retain ownership of copyright for their donated work, but RLCF will be granted permission for limited ongoing use for program promotion, public outreach, and development of sales, with any proceeds of the artwork directly benefiting future iterations of the AiR.
